SF’S Brand New Tuesday Comedy Blast ( North Beach ) / Opening Night
Historic, funky and fun North Beach bar that Janis Joplin and Allen Ginsberg hung out at kicks off new comedy night
After a two-month remodel, Tope Lounge in North Beach has finally reopened and is kicking off with a brand new HellaFunny comedy night on Tuesdays w/ $2 off all specialty cocktails and wine plus a great lineup of comics who you’ll regularly see at Cobbs, Punchline, SF Sketchfest and more.
Tope is funky and fun, with a tin ceiling , custom-designed psychedelic mushroom wallpaper from local artist Cecilia Granata, neon signs and rainbow Tulum-style swinging chairs .

ABOUT TOPE
Back in the beatnik days there were live poetry readings, in the ’60s as the “Kiwi” it was the first non-smoking gay bar in SF, and was a bar that both Allen Ginsberg and Janis Joplin both hung out with. When it was “The Gathering” legend has it there was a bartender named Brian that had a monthly customer appreciation day. He made pot cookies sprinkled with speed.
